Pastor Evan Rose -- Visit Church - 5/6/2026
Visiting a church for the first time can feel intimidating.
You may wonder what to wear, where to park, what the service will be like, whether your kids will be welcomed, or whether people will notice that you’re new. You may be exploring faith for the first time, coming back to church after a long season away, or looking for a new church family in Bellevue.
Whatever brings you through the doors, we want you to know this:
You are welcome.
At Lake Hills, we believe the church is not a performance to watch, but a people gathered around Jesus. We gather because God is worthy, because we need His grace, and because He forms us through His Word, His people, and His presence.
Psalm 34:3 says,
“Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt his name together.”
That is what Sunday is about. We gather together to exalt the Lord, hear from His Word, respond in prayer and worship, and encourage one another as we follow Jesus.
Every church has its own rhythm, but most Christian worship services include a few common elements.
At Lake Hills, a Sunday service usually includes:
Singing hymns and biblically rich worship songs
Reading Scripture
Prayer
A sermon from the Bible
Opportunities to respond in faith
Occasional observance of the Lord’s Supper
Time to connect before or after the service and coffee
Our goal is not to put on a show. Our goal is to help people see and respond to Jesus.
Colossians 3:16 says,
“Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”
That verse shapes how we worship. We want Scripture to be central. We want songs that help the Word of Christ dwell richly in us. We want the sermon to explain the Bible clearly and apply it to real life. We want our prayers to express dependence on God.
In other words, church is not mainly about religious routine. It is about being shaped by God’s truth and grace.
You do not need to dress a certain way to come to church.
Some people dress more casually. Some dress more formally. Most are somewhere in between. What matters most is not what you wear, but that you come ready to seek the Lord.
The Bible reminds us that God looks deeper than outward appearance. When Samuel was looking for Israel’s next king, God told him,
“Humans do not see what the Lord sees, for humans see what is visible, but the Lord sees the heart.”
— 1 Samuel 16:7
So come as you are. We will be glad to see you.
No.
We want to welcome guests warmly, but we do not want to embarrass anyone. You will not be asked to stand, introduce yourself publicly, or do anything uncomfortable.
Our hope is simple: that you would feel seen, welcomed, and free to participate at your own pace.
If you want to connect, we would love to meet you. If you prefer to observe quietly your first time, that is okay too.
Families are welcome at Lake Hills.
Children are a gift from the Lord, and we know that bringing kids to church can sometimes feel like a full-body workout. We want parents to feel encouraged, not stressed.
Depending on the Sunday and the age of your child, there may be childcare or children’s ministry options available. Children are also welcome in the service. A little noise does not scare us. We are grateful when families worship together. Kids are dismissed after the singing to hear the Bible story in a format most impactful for them.
Jesus said,
“Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
— Matthew 19:14
We want to reflect that heart.
When you visit a church, it is easy to notice surface-level things first.
The music style.
The building.
The size of the congregation.
The age of the people.
The friendliness of the room.
Those things matter in some ways. But they are not the most important things.
The deeper questions are:
Is Jesus honored here?
Is the Bible taught faithfully?
Are people being called to repentance, faith, and discipleship?
Is there genuine love among the people?
Can I grow here?
Can I serve here?
Can I help others find and follow Jesus here?
A healthy church is not a perfect church. There are no perfect churches because there are no perfect people. But a healthy church is centered on Christ, shaped by Scripture, marked by love, and committed to the mission Jesus gave His people.
Jesus said,
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
— John 13:35
That is what we want visitors to experience—not polished perfection, but a people learning to love one another because Christ has first loved us.
You are welcome.
Church is not only for people who have everything figured out. It is for sinners, seekers, doubters, strugglers, new believers, longtime believers, and everyone in between.
If you are exploring Christianity, we are glad you are here. You do not need to pretend. You can ask honest questions. You can listen. You can take your time.
The center of Christianity is not that we have climbed our way up to God. The good news is that God has come down to us in Jesus.
Jesus lived without sin, died on the cross for sinners, rose again from the dead, and now calls all people to turn from sin and trust in Him. That is the message we come back to again and again because it is the hope of the world.
Visiting a church is a good first step. But it does not have to be the last one.
If you are new to Lake Hills, here are a few simple next steps:
The first visit can feel like a lot. Come back a few times. Listen to the preaching. Meet people slowly. Pay attention to what God may be doing in your heart.
We would love to know you. You can talk with Pastor Evan, a greeter, or someone sitting near you. You do not need to have a polished story. Just say hello.
From time to time, we offer informal opportunities to meet with Pastor Evan, ask questions, hear more about the church, and learn possible next steps. This is a great place to ask about baptism, membership, serving, groups, or what it means to follow Jesus.
Christianity was never meant to be lived alone. Groups, classes, prayer gatherings, and one-on-one relationships help us grow.
Hebrews 10:24–25 says,
“And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together… but encouraging each other.”
We need one another.
If Lake Hills becomes the church where you are being taught, known, loved, and called to grow, we would invite you to consider membership.
Membership is not about checking a box. It is about saying, “This is my church family. I want to follow Jesus here, be cared for here, and help others grow here.”
If you are looking for a church in Bellevue, we would love to welcome you.
Not because we have everything figured out.
Not because we are impressive.
But because Jesus is worthy, His Word is true, and His grace changes lives.
At Lake Hills, our mission is simple:
We want to help all people find and follow Jesus.
So whether you are new to church, returning after a long time away, moving to the area, or simply wondering what Christianity is all about, we would be honored to meet you.
Come as you are.
Bring your questions.
Take your next step.
We would love to walk with you.
